Rocca: “Migranti, Europa assente. Il volontariato unico vero artefice della costruzione del processo di pace”

“Esiste un’Unione Europea? Perché io, oltre alla politica degli annunci e a una pretesa di saldare le anime del popolo europeo con logiche economiche, non vedo nient’altro. Dov’è finito il piano di relocation dell’Europa? Al momento sono poco meno di duemila le persone trasferite a fronte delle 160 mila previste entro settembre 2017. E non c’è nessun boom degli sbarchi che, anzi, fanno registrare numeri appena inferiori a quelli dello scorso anno. Si è solo creato un tappo, ai confini a nord dell’Italia dove si agisce come se l’Unione non esistesse già più, in una, questa volta davvero solidale, compattezza dei leader europei. Chi continua a prendersela con persone che fuggono da situazioni diverse di violenza e conflitti, lo fa per consenso politico, esasperando quel clima di paura già alimentato dai recenti episodi di terrorismo.

Siamo fortunati ad avere alcune amministrazioni illuminate e la forza del volontariato in cui sono coinvolti anche i nostri volontari della Croce Rossa che stanno operando incessantemente in Sicilia, in tutto il sud Italia, a Como, a Ventimiglia, a Milano, a Roma e oggi, anche nelle operazioni di post search and rescue nel Mar Mediterraneo, in uno sforzo infinito nel cercare di salvare vite, nel limitare quelle situazioni di disagio così estreme e per dare dignità ad altri esseri umani. Sono loro che stanno dimostrando come il concetto di fratellanza e umanità si sposi con un reale processo di costruzione della pace. È a loro che dovrebbe essere assegnato un Nobel come garanti di un sentimento comune di appartenenza alla razza umana. Non possono però per questo sostituirsi ai Governi nel risolvere un problema più grande che affonda le sue radici in accordi obsoleti e inadeguati, come quello di Dublino, che di fatto sta rendendo l’Italia unica artefice del destino di migliaia di persone”.  Lo ha detto il Presidente della Croce Rossa Italiana Francesco Rocca. As far as I am aware, European politicians are struggling to preserve the cohesion of the citizens based on economic and financial “values”, I cannot see any other attempt.What happened with the European relocation plan? At present just some two thousands migrants have been relocated out of the 160,000 expected by September 2017. I remark that we are not facing an exceptional period of migrants’disembarks right now, it is reported we are right below the average of summer 2015.What is happening right now around the northern Italy borders already demonstrates Europe does not exist; the European leaders in fact, this time in perfect harmony, have closed the frontiers.Someone keeps putting the blame on these people escaping from war and violence. They do it to stroke the sentiments of fear triggered by the recent terrorist attacks with the objective of raising their political consensus.Hopefully, some institutions are still there to guarantee an outstanding support in these situations, I refer to the volunteers and in particular to those of the Italian Red Cross. They have been tirelessly working in Sicily, in Como, in Ventimiglia, in Milan, in Rome and in this moment in the post search and rescue operations at the Mediterranean Sea.Their committment is unlimited in the attempt to save lives, to limit those uncomfortable and extreme situations and to give dignity to other human beings.They are showing how much humanity is the way to contribute to the maintenance and promotion of humandignity and peace in the world.They’d deserve the Nobel Prize for Peace as guarantors of a common feeling to belong to the human race. But they cannot replace Governments to solve some problems which have their roots in outdated and inadequate agreements, such as the Dublin’s one, which in fact is making Italy the unique architect of the fate of thousands of people”.Francesco Rocca, President of the Italian Red Cross
