Solferino is the cradle of a unique idea, the idea that a vulnerable human being should be helped regardless of the uniform he wears. This idea even today, after 151 years, commits the Italian Red Cross and the entire International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Today, like then, the Red Cross Volunteers are ready to leave to provide assistance to the victims of deprivation, war, natural disasters and to anyone in a situation of need. Thanks to their commitment, it has been possible to face a serious humanitarian crisis such as that caused by the Haiti earthquake last January 12.
"Solferino 2010" is dedicated to them: the millions of volunteers who continue to spread the principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Universality, Unity, Independence and Volunteering around the world.
The memory of the values which inspired the heroic work of Henry Dunant and the call to a strong and proactive action to face today's and tomorrow's new challenges are the true soul of the events. Solferino 2010 will take place from June 20th to 27th, 2010 and will gather, like every year, thousands of people from many countries of the world.
As in the past edition, the events will take place in a Humanitarian Village, an area set up as a camp by the Italian Red Cross to host young people and volunteers from the Red Cross Red Crescent. Many activities are in the agenda: the 17th edition of the Fiaccolata; four Youth Summer Camps organized by the Italian Red Cross in partnership with the Ministry of Youth; the National gathering of representatives of the Italian Youth Councils; the "Lesson Learnt" workshop; a seminar on the International Humanitarian Law; the Raid Cross; and, last but not least, the Italian Red Cross Training Camp, held from June 28th to July 12th.
